-
SAMUEL L. JACKSON describes himself as the sort of actor about
- whom it is said, "I don't know him, but I know his work." A
- theater veteran for 20 years, Jackson has appeared in as many
- films. But now, with simultaneous roles in Fresh, The New Age
- and the feverishly praised Pulp Fiction, he's set to go from
- movie actor to movie star. Jackson knew he had landed the role
- of Jules, the voluble hit man in Pulp Fiction, after his second
- audition. "The guy I was reading with," he says, "got lost because
- he was so busy watching me."

-
Fiances were allowed to hang out backstage at the Lagerfeld
- show in Paris last week--or anyway, multimillionaire illusionist
- fiances of supermodels were allowed to. DAVID COPPERFIELD admired
- CLAUDIA SCHIFFER as she took a break from working the runway.
- Earlier in the week, Schiffer appeared at the Frankfurt Book
- Fair to announce that she was writing her autobiography. The
- book may have to be somewhat brief--Schiffer is 23--but
- publishers still lined up.

-
JOHN F. KENNEDY JR. is no longer in a committed relationship,
- so perhaps he has more time to devote to his career. The lapsed
- lawyer is well on his way to launching George (as in Washington),
- a political magazine. "George is to politics what Rolling Stone
- is to music, Forbes is to business, Allure is to beauty, Premiere
- is to films," read a letter sent to 150,000 potential subscribers
- last week. Kennedy hopes to raise between $5 million and $10
- million from investors for the venture.

-
SEEN & HEARD

-
Oregon Republican BOB PACKWOOD is not the sort of public servant
- who would prefer his teetotalism to go unnoticed. The Senator,
- accused of making unwanted advances toward 26 women, told an
- Oregon newspaper that he attends Alcoholics Anonymous meetings
- twice weekly. When the sexual-harassment allegations surfaced
- two years ago, he denied them, adding, "Whether alcohol was
- a factor in the incidents, I do not know."

-
Can it be that MICK JAGGER is straying from his wife and the
- mother of his young children? JERRY HALL and Jagger were together
- in New Orleans, where the Rolling Stones were performing. But
- it was reported that Hall discovered a fax sent to Jagger at
- the hotel by his ex-flame, model Carla Bruni, suggesting they
- were planning to meet in Las Vegas. An apparently enraged Hall
- left town.
